Ridgetown is expected to see some upgrades when it comes to high-speed fibre internet.
At Monday night's meeting, Chatham-Kent (CK) council approved sending a letter to TekSavvy, Bell, and Cogeco to ask them to consider extending their services to Ridgetown.
The motion was brought forward by councillor Anthony Ceccacci, who says the town is “lacking” when it comes to high-speed internet.
"As soon as you have a certain level there, you are deemed served regardless of the speed. So, Ridgetown is essentially deemed served, but there's a lot of businesses and residents that are struggling to have high-speed fibre," Ceccacci explained.
Ceccacci said he has already had a company reach out.
"Before the motion was even passed, Cogeco has already reached out to me about the inquiry and saying how important the area is," he added.
There is no estimate as to when high speed internet services would become operational in Ridgetown, but Ceccacci is hopeful these services will become available.
The motion passed unanimously as part of the consent agenda.
