Tire tracks lead to arrest of wanted Walpole Island man

A wanted man from Walpole Island has been arrested and charged with multiple firearms and drug offences following a crash on St. Anne Island.

On Tuesday, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported an investigation into tire impressions crossing the snowy ice surface of the Johnson Channel to St. Anne Island led to the 38-year-old suspect's arrest on Monday.

Police said concerns for the well-being of those involved led the Walpole Island Police Service to begin the investigation.

The OPP noted a vehicle entered the ditch on St. Anne Island, but no one was seen in or around it.

Approximately four hours later, an individual was spotted walking along the shoreline of St. Anne Island, and police determined that he was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant.

The 38-year-old from Walpole Island First Nation faces 12 counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, as well as charges of unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking.
