Emergency responders were called to the scene on Monday, but the employee did not survive.
"We are heartbroken by this loss and extend our deepest condolences to the employee’s family, loved ones, and colleagues," The Andersons said in a statement released to the media.
The company is unable to release any further information as it cooperates with the authorities.
One of the largest producers of the company's cans was Sonoco, which had to cut around 30 per cent of its workforce in Chatham due to the decision.
