Thames River levels expected to increase around Chatham

The public is being warned to stay away from the Thames River in Chatham.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) is anticipating water levels to rise on Tuesday due to melting snow and ice.

The levels are already high in the downtown core, as nearby sidewalks are currently underwater.

The LTVCA believes there's a chance that Simcoe Lane under the 5th St. Bridge could experience some flooding as levels rise.

Other areas outside of Chatham, between Thamesville and Delaware, have also experienced some flooding near the river in recent days.
