Arson Arrest

Arson and mischief charges have been laid against a Chatham-Kent man following a couple of incidents in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent (CK) police alleged a 29-year-old local man set a fire behind a business on St. Clair Street in Chatham on Thursday night and then damaged a phone box at the intersection of Lacroix Street and Grand Avenue West in Chatham.

The suspect is now facing charges of arson with disregard for human life and mischief.

Weapons Arrest

A Blenheim man has turned himself in to Chatham-Kent (CK) police after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

CK police alleged the 44-year-old Blenheim man was involved in a fight on Highland Drive in Chatham on Saturday and took out a firearm before fleeing in a vehicle.

The suspect turned himself in to police early Friday morning and faces several firearms charges, including carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, and using a firearm while committing an offence.

Impaired Arrest

A Leamington man has been arrested and charged with impaired driving following a crash in Wheatley.

Chatham-Kent (CK) police alleged the 39-year-old man was impaired by alcohol and drugs during a two-vehicle collision on Erie Street North in Wheatley on Thursday evening.

Police said the driver of the second vehicle, a 57-year-old woman, from Wheatley, required medical attention and was transported to the hospital.

According to CK police, the suspect failed both of his breath tests and he was charged with operation of a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and drugs and operation of a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.

B&E Arrest

Two youths have been charged with break and enter, theft, and possession of property obtained by crime after a commercial business in Chatham was broken into.

Chatham-Kent (CK) police alleged the youths broke the front window of the store on St. Clair St. in Chatham just after midnight on Friday and entered the building.

The suspects tried to run away, but were arrested.
