The Real Canadian Superstore has prepared 505 bags of non-perishable food to help the Chatham-Kent ATV Club’s ‘Feed the Hunger’ event.
The grocery store will be selling the bags of food for $5 at checkout on the day of the event.
The fundraiser took a break during the COVID-19 pandemic but is in full force for its second year back.
“We estimated last year we brought in $10,000 of food, and we're hoping to do that or exceed it dramatically because the food banks, once again, here are having a hard time keeping up with the demand,” said ATV Club President Vince Masse.
In addition to collecting food and monetary donations, the event will also feature a BBQ, thanks to the Lally Auto Group's donation.
“We'll be doing a barbecue that day and we'll be serving sausage and hot dogs and the fee will be a donation, so whatever somebody wants to throw in the donation box we gladly accept,” Masse added.
The ATV Club has partnered with the Lally Auto Group, VanHoof Siding, Scott Stanley Insurance, Dr Colin & Rebecca Bryan, Hudson Motorcycles, A&L Auto Recyclers, Dor-Co garage doors, In The Hunt Trailers, and Advance Trucking to make the event happen.
Throughout the years, the event has raised around $80,000 to $100,000 worth of food and money for local food banks, according to Masse.
“Our goal, every time, is to come up with enough food to donate to the 10-plus food banks all over Chatham-Kent (CK), not just the city of Chatham, but anywhere there'd be a food bank in the municipality of CK,” said Masse.
Masse has created a Go Fund Me campaign for the event that currently has already received 63 per cent of its $4,000 goal.
The ATV Club will be outside of the Real Canadian Superstore from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on November 15.
They will be collecting all non-perishable food, as well as cash donations and e-transfers to ckatvclub24@gmail.com.
